Dear Athletes and Friends:
Happy March– I am excited to announce that registration for the 2018 Bay Area Senior Games is open.
To register on line – check the big red box on this home page. Note that both pickleball and badminton will register using separate systems, just click on your sport and follow the directions. If you want to register by paper, please download the entry blank (also located in the red registration box), fill it out and send it to our office.
We have added Power Walking this year and are so pleased to announce that the City of Palo Alto will continue to host the venues for soccer, basketball, volleyball and swimming.
About Bay Area Senior Games ATHLETES: In 2017, 1500+ men and women over age 50 participated in over 20 sports – this year our goal is 1750 athletes – so tell your friends and help us recruit new participants! We also had over 400 athletes compete in the Encore Games in November in soccer and Track & Field.
This is a qualifying year for the 2019 Summer National Senior Games. Pasadena is hosting the California State Championships where you can qualify for the National Games and the Bay Area is going to host the Encore Games, a 2nd chance for California athletes to qualify, in late October & November ( dates TBD). Stay tuned.
VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers help us in every Senior Games sport. Online registration for volunteers will be opening April 1, 2018 on our website www.bayareaseniorgames.org . This is a great way to satisfy community service requirements for high school students! Volunteers are so important in keeping the Games running! Please share this volunteer information with your neighbors with teenagers, colleagues and family members.

REASON: Demonstrating that "the competition never ends" and that exercise and physical activity are the keys to a long, happy and healthy life.
Mission: To promote healthy lifestyles for seniors through education, fitness and the spirited competition of sports, while inspiring everyone to embrace health and appreciate and enjoy the value of sports related exercise.
I want to share this thought with all of you. The Senior Games are at the heart of the meaning of the Olympic Movement. Though they inspire us all, it's still true that many people watch the Olympic Games, see mostly younger athletes at the prime of their performance and say "those athletes are amazing, but that's not me..." With the Senior Games, people of all ages, even those who did not think they could swim, run or jump anymore, are inspired to a more active, healthy and fulfilling life...that's the TRUE Olympic spirit and the real meaning of the Olympic Movement, a challenge to all of us to be the best we can be.
We look forward to seeing you at the 2018 Bay Area Senior Games.
