Congratulations to the over 900 athletes that competed in this years 2010 Bay Area Senior Games. In spite of near monsoon rains, athletes swam, ran, jumped, played and generally had a great time.
We are delighted to announce that the 2011 Bay Area Senior Games will be held March 26 – March 30 at Stanford University and other venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Games are open to all athletes over the age of 50, no matter where you live.
The Games will feature fourteen competitions in Swimming, Track & Field, Cycling, Racquetball, Fencing, Golf, Soccer, 3 v 3 Basketball, Softball, Race Walking, Tennis, Table Tennis, Water Polo, and Lawn Bowling. However, the California Senior Games Association is interested in rotating the State Games to Northern California and we are waiting to hear if the Bay Area Senior Games might be selected as the 2011 California State Championships.
In addition, we have had calls for other sports wanting to be included (archery, handball, volleyball, badminton, karate) Easy to do, but each sport needs a volunteer sports chair and committee to conduct the sport. The 2011 Bay Area Senior Games will again be centered at the world-class athletic facilities at Stanford University. The only sports not to be staged on campus are Cycling (Cañada Road, San Mateo County), Softball (Twin Creeks Complex, Sunnyvale), and Lawn Bowling (Palo Alto Lawn Bowls)
Register on line at www.bayareaseniorgames.org after September 1, 2010 or print out an entry blank and mail. And of course, volunteers are welcome and very much needed. Volunteer shifts will be posted on September 1, 2010 also.
In response to the popularity of the 2010 HEALTH AND PEAK PERFORMANCE CONFERNECE we are planning another one-day Health & Peak Performance Conference at Stanford, featuring lectures by medical experts, training tips for experienced athletes and a luncheon discussion with Olympians. Complete details will be posted by September 1, 2010.
Finally, we are proud to offer a Sports Photography Workshop on March 26 and 27, which will provide sports photographers access to the field of play. Students will produce action images over the weekend of shooting for review, and the class will produce an on line portfolio as a final project. Images may be used in future Senior Games printed material and web site. Please register here.
See you all at the 2011Senior Games in March.
Happy Training
