Bay Area Senior Games

Dear Athletes:
The Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC) is right in the middle of the 2012 Bay Area Senior Games - California State Championships which is the California qualifying competition for the 2013 Summer National Senior Games in Cleveland, Ohio.

We have completed the first week of great competitions featuring Track & Field, Swimming, Water Polo, Basketball, Bocce, Triathlon, Softball, Feats of Strength, Bowling, Racquetball, Race Walk, and Soccer - The Games feature all of the 18 sports needed to qualify for Cleveland at the 2013 Summer National Championships. In addition, we are continuing our Bay Area tradition of hosting the exciting sports of water polo (men and women), fencing, soccer, bocce, lawn bowling and rugby. Pickleball, which has been added to the NSGA events for the 2013 National Championships, will be held in Pasadena in 2012.

We kicked off the 2012 Senior Games with the Second Annual Solar Torch Relay followed by a great Pasta Dinner on Friday, March 9th at Stanford's famous Jimmy's Sports Cafe. Fifteen Athletes and a few special community representatives carried the solar torch throughout the Stanford athletic facilities.

The Athletes Oath was taken by Olympian Barbra Higgins, competing in the sports of fencing, racquetball, table tennis and horseshoes. Barbra was joined by California Senior Games Board Member John Guislin.
